Description of the Partner activities

Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), is one of the Center of Excellent in UTM which has been established since 1990. AMTEC incorporates a business venture laboratory that is involved in the design, fabrication and commercialization of customized membrane module and membrane system for local and overseas applications. AMTEC involves fundamental and application studies of various membrane-based separation processes including waste-water separation, gas separation, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and ion exchange membranes for fuel cell. In particular, the centre focuses on the effects of fabrication conditions of flat sheet and hollow fiber membranes on the structural properties and separation performance by adopting a combine effect of phase inversion and rheologically induced molecular orientation approach.

Involved personnel:

  • Dr. Mohd Hafiz Dzarfan Othman
  • Dr. Mukhlis A Rahman
  • Dr. Juhana Jaafar
  • Dr Goh Pei Sean
  • Dr Lau Woei Jye
  • Ng Be Cheer
  • Mohd Sohaimi Abdullah (AMTEC)

Role of the Partner in LIMPID

The work of AMTEC at UTM involves the development and characterization of a novel photoactive nanocomposite membrane for degradation of EDCs in wastewater. Later in the project the work will will then focus on the design and scaling-up the bench-scale membrane-based photocatalytic reactor system into pilot-scale system based on the LIMPID nanocomposites. Particular attention will be devoted to membranes for reverse osmosis and nanofiltration technologies for water purification.
