Role of the Partner in LIMPID

Solvay Specialty Polymers role in LIMPID project includes tasks associated with the synthesis and characterization of commercial and new latexes based on (per)fluorinated monomers. In particular Solvay Specialty Polymers will supply latexes based on PVDF materials to generate new and innovative polymer matrix to host photo-catalytic nano-particles both for coating and water treatment membranes applications. PVDF is widely used in architectural and industrial coating due to its outstanding performances in weathering and chemical resistance in comparison to other materials. The objective is to obtain via emulsion process stable polymers (due to presence of fluorine) for coating so capable to resist to photo-catalytic degradation in addition to high resistance to abrasion and wear. Since emulsion process is very versatile, it could be possible to modify polymer backbone (introducing suitable co-monomers) or adding to the latex suitable nano-fillers to impart the desired properties for high performing (self cleaning and decontamination) final coating.
