LIMPID project publishable summary

"Nanocomposite materials for photocatalytic degradation of pollutants", LIMPID, is European Project funded under NMP.2012.2.2-6 Photocatalytic materials for depollution. LIMPID aims at develop materials
and technologies based on the synergic combination of different types of nanoparticles (NPs) into a polymer host to generate innovative nanocomposites to be applied in novel depollution treatments for the catalytic degradation of pollutants and bacteria, both in air or in aqueous solution with enhanced efficiency and applicability. While use of semiconductor species, like TiO2 for photocatalytic depollution is already known, LIMPID's goal is include in one nanocomposite material different functional NPs in order to increase the photocatalytic efficiency and, possibly, allow the use of solar energy to activate the process.
Nanocomposite formulation prevents NPs to leach into water and air thus strongly limiting their potential environmental threat.
